ACCESSIBILITY OF THE EUROPEAN SOLIDARITY CENTRE

Access to the building
The nearest tram stop to the ECS is “Plac Solidarności”, served by tram lines 7, 8 and 10. These lines arrive from the direction of Śródmieście (city centre) on one side, and Nowy Port and Wrzeszcz on the other.

From the stop to the main entrance of the ECS is about 150 m. The route does not require crossing a street, only the tram tracks if arriving from Nowy Port or Wrzeszcz – the crossing is equipped with traffic lights.
There are no tunnels along the way. The final part of the route is partially uneven and cobblestoned.

There are also two bus stops nearby: The nearest SKM (urban rail) station is Gdańsk Główny. From there to the main entrance of the ECS is about 700 m. The route includes one pedestrian crossing with traffic lights (near the PKP station) and two crossings without traffic lights. The final part of the route is partially uneven and cobblestoned.

COMMUNICATION CARD

The communication card enables understanding between parties involved in the process of exchanging information. It facilitates sending and receiving messages, eliminating language, cultural and other barriers that may occur in traditional verbal communication. It supports both sides of interaction: service staff and the client.

One of the key advantages of the communication card is its universality. Although originally developed as a tool supporting communication for Deaf individuals, its use extends far beyond this group. The card can be used by foreigners who do not speak any language known to us, people using plain language communication, people with speech impairments, as well as preschool or school-age children who are only learning to communicate.

The communication card was designed on an A4 sheet. It contains thematically arranged pictograms with space for a response or clarification of a question. The second side of the card allows free – written or drawn – communication between the people involved in the process.

The card is intended for single-use. Do not hesitate to use it – write, draw, mark or sketch, using it in any way that suits you best.

Before you start using it, take some time to familiarise yourself with all the icons and their layout. Effective use of this tool relies on knowing its structure and the pictograms used.

We developed the Communication Card specifically for the needs of the New Trends in Tourism conference. You do not need to print it; it will be available at the registration desk, also in English.
